DON'T MISS THIS WEEK'S Mount Vernon Farmer's Market!
It is our last scheduled date to be a vendor this season and we are bringing some great produce, made extra tasty by this week's cooler temps!
Like HUGE flavorful celery heads!
And some Halloween-inspired cornbreads to spark your spooky spirit!
Saturday, October 12
9 to Noon
On the Square
LOOK FOR THE YELLOW TENT!
Can't make it to see us today?
You can still find our produce and breads through our website ALL WINTER LONG. We don't stop growing and gardening (and baking) just because the market season winds down...
This year we started selling directly to customers through online ordering and you can jump in anytime!
Look through our online grocery, sign-up to receive direct emails, or contact us for more info.
We've been busy this week with kickoff of our 4th APPLE CRUNCH season!
Emily B., our Community Compost Coordinator joined our local Knox County Local Food Council and SNAP Education Team from our local OSU Extension - Knox County For the GREAT LAKES APPLE CRUNCH. They passed out local apples (from Branstool Orchards and Center of Hope) to the students at Twin Oaks Elementary.
October is National Farm to School Month and to celebrate, Ohio participates in the Great Apple Crunch as a fun way to:
🍎 Eat healthy
🍎 Support local farmers
🍎 Highlight local foods
🍎 Learn all about apples
The Apple Crunch is simply an event ANY group of people (classroom, school, family, coworkers, etc.) get together, buy local apples, and bite into apples together at the same time! It is also an opportunity to learn about your local foods!
Emily coordinated the collection of all the apple waste for...you guessed it, COMPOSTING!
More Apple Crunch events are happening around Mount Vernon City Schools District this month - follow us on social media or contact us for more info! You can email Emily at communityrootsohio@gmail.com to join in, volunteer with us, or just get dates for upcoming events!
